Hi 24 Savvy Readers!!

Since many of us have recently been doused with our second dose of snow, it seems appropriate to tackle the constant fight we all have with dry skin throughout the winter.

Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you to stop taking hot showers (I love them as much as you do!). I will give you a few tips instead.

  • Firstly, it is still important to exfoliate! You need to remove all of that flaky dead skin to stimulate new cell growth as well as enable better penetration of your moisturizers. Use a loofah in that hot shower with a mild shower gel. Remember to replace your loofah at least once a month. They are a breeding ground for bacteria!
  • After your shower, before you dry off one of the best things you can do is apply a body oil to wet skin and massage in! Trust me, your dry, itchy skin will become so smooth you'll probably convert to body oils year round.

A couple of my favorites?

  • Ren Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Nourishing Body Oil has rice germ oil, jojoba oil and macadamia oil. It will change your life!
  • Clarins "Tonic" Body Treatment Oil not only moisturizes but firms and tones! How can you go wrong? It has geranium, mint, rosemary and hazelnut oils. This one is my current addiction. Check out their "relaxing" body oil also.

You can also go to your local health food store or Whole Foods and pick up almond oil or hazelnut oil. Be creative, no harm can be done. Unless of course you are allergic to nuts...

For those of you who can't give up your lotions and potions, try these moisturizers or combine them with the oils—maybe using one a night and one in the morning:

  • Ren Demask Rose Ramnose Biosacride Body Cream. The first ingredient is rose water, not a bad way to start. It also has shea butter and rose hip oil.
  • Clarins Satin Smooth Body Lotion. This has hyaluronic acid which is one of the most effective hydrating ingredients out there.

One more tip, as you research your own products, watch out for body moisturizers that have mineral oil in them. I know this ingredient feels good going on but ultimately it can clog your pores and not assist in dry skin at all.

Sending you glowing skin care wishes,
Vanessa
